More success for Lismore runners

LISMORE runners were again among the medals in recent cross country events.

They competed at the Lakeside Challenge held in Lurgan Park and at the District D Championships in Monaghan.

In the Lakeside Challenge cross country race the Lismore minor girls finished in a very credible third position.

The five girls on the team were Emma McConville, Shannon Rainey, Katie Hendron, Brogan Mc Creanor-Horne and Emer Lawless.

Emma Mc Conville had a particularly triumphant day, finishing first in the minor girls race. The junior girls from Lismore furthered this success by winning the overall team prize in their age group.

The junior girls from year nine and 10 included Ciara Hendron, Ciara DeCarteret, Aoibhin Lennon, Megan Downey, Aiobhin McManus and Cliodhna Murray.

At the District D Championships in Scotstown, Monaghan, Lismore proved once again their strengths in cross country running.

In the girls’ junior competition year nine pupil Ciara Hendron finished second, with her team member Aiobhin McManus getting third. Overall they had a terrific team success picking up first prize.

To complete the day the Lismore senior boys, Niall Devlin, Philip Haire, Ryan Doran and Jason McDowell all put in outstanding performances to collect the third team prize.

All the members of the Lismore cross country squad performed to a high standard. Hopefully this terrific success will be continued in Mallusk, later in February, for the 15 Lismore runners who qualified for the Ulster finals.
