Last week, we brought news of Craig McCreery’s medal winning display, this week we had a look at Morgan Russell-Cowan’s first outing for the senior team.

This, being her first time shooting at International level at this discipline, the 17 year-old did not let the occasion overawe her. She gradually improved her position after each day’s shooting. On day one, she finished 9ninth but after day two she was in eighth position with shooting a score of 172 and qualified for the shoot offs in the last eight.

After the shoot-offs, she finished seventh in the world, a very credible performance for her first time shooting at that level. Morgan shoots compound unlimited style, which means she has a telescopic sight, a release aid, a spirit level etc on her bow.

Morgan was understandably delighted with the whole trip.

“It was great,” she said. “From the official practice where I shot alongside Olympic archers to the qualification days where I was shooting the courses in a forest with two other teenagers from USA and Australia. The only downside was the food!

“I am amazed to finish seventh. It’s far better than I expected.”
