Mossley Hockey Club mourns passing of chairman Trevor Lorimer

Tributes have been paid to Mossley Hockey Club chairman Trevor Lorimer who passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning (January 29).

The 51-year-old was a towering figure at The Glade and was well respected in Ulster and Irish hockey circles.

A statement on the Irish Hockey Association’s website read: “It is with great sadness we learned this morning of the death of Trevor Lorimer. Trevor was a great supporter of Irish Hockey and held the role of Irish U16 Boys’ Manager for a number of years.

“Our deepest sympathy to his wife Ann-Maree and their children Kathryn, James and Claire and all the members of Mossley Hockey Club.”

Ulster Hockey has also paid tribute, describing him as a ‘a stalwart of Mossley Hockey Club and a key member of the hockey community in Ulster’.

“On behalf of the Ulster Hockey community we express our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to his wife Ann-Maree, their children, Kathryn, James, Claire and all of Trevor’s extended family and friends,” a statement read.

“Trevor was heavily involved in Ulster Hockey for many years ... his presence will be sadly missed across the hockey community.”

Mr. Lorimer was vice-chairman at Mossley for four years before taking up the role of chairman in 2011.

Dougie Sleith, Mossley’s treasurer, described his friend and former team-mate as the ‘driving force’ in attracting international hockey to The Glade when the club hosted a week-long women’s tournament in 2013, featuring Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Canada.
