Mossley knocked off track by Railway men in Irish Cup

Mossley went into the match expecting a tough encounter from the side who currently lie fourth in Leinster Divison 1. And that’s exactly what they got in a 4-3 defeat.

The match got under way in great conditions with the home side enjoying a strong spell of possession.

Railway were awarded the first penalty corner with just five minutes on the clock which was converted with a low drag.

From the restart Mossley lost possession and allowed Railway in for their second with only six minutes gone.

Mossley hit back when Joel Cathcart intercepted a loose pass from the home defence and found Neal Glassey who burst into the circle, forcing the home keeper into a fine save. The lively Colin McLean (pictured) made no mistake from the rebound and fired home to reduce the deficit for the Glademen.

There was no let-up in the fast-paced action as Railway broke down the Mossley defence to extend their lead to 3-1 after only 13 minutes of play. That’s how it stayed until the break.

When Jordan Robinson was fouled in the goal mouth he stepped made no mistake from the penalty to reduce the deficit.

The visitors rallied and when Glassey set up McLean for his second of the match, it was game on at 3-3.

With 15 minutes still remaining both sides pushed for the winning goal.

Railway came close on 62 minutes, forcing a smart save from Ben McMillan.

The final spell of play was to prove decisive as Railway entered the Mossley circle. The initial shot saved by McMillan but Mossley were unable to clear, allowing the home team to score from close range taking a 4-3 lead with only 30 seconds of play remaining.
