Mossley return from Donegalempty-handed

Raphoe 2

Mossley 1

MOSSLEY travelled to Co. Donegal on Saturday to take on fellow strugglers Raphoe in rearranged fixture from earlier in the season.

Both teams opened brightly looking for an early advantage but were finding it difficult to create chances.

Mossley were slowly gaining the upper hand as they pushed forward with Todd and McClean prominent.

The Glade men drew first blood when they were awarded a penalty stroke for a goalmouth infringement and up stepped O’Flaherty to slam home his effort leaving the keeper no chance.

Mossley remained in control and took their deserved lead in with them at half-time.

In the second period Raphoe came out with more purpose to their play and began to put Mossley under pressure on both flanks.

Mossley edged back in defence allowing Raphoe to push deeper into the Mossley danger zone and, following some sloppy Mossley defending, Raphoe drew level from close in.

The penalty corners count was about even but neither side was capitalising thanks to some good goalkeeping by both stoppers.

Mossley continued to play deep in defence and this was to cost them the match, when again from sloppy defending Raphoe took the lead with time running out for Mossley.

To their credit Mossley worked hard to get back on level terms but to no avail. Mossley will be disappointed because they deserved something the game. The two teams clash next week again at The Glade (1pm).

Mossley Man of the match: Scott McNeill.
