Armoy submit2017 race dates

Bill Kennedy MBE has been re-elected as Clerk of the Course and resuming the position of Chairman at the Club’s Annual General Meeting which took place earlier this week.

Speaking at the well attended AGM, Bill Kennedy, Chairman and Clerk of the Course of the Armoy Road Races said: “I am so proud of the Armoy Motorcycle and Road Racing Club. 2016 was the best year by far.

“Every member of the Club has played an instrumental part in making that happen and they all should be exceptionally pleased with that.

“Our own Club members were involved in every aspect of the races and I’m very proud of all of them and what they managed to achieve this year. 2016 also saw the best course set up and dismantling, completed with total ease and little impact on our local community.”

Bill Kennedy also added after the AGM, “While we have reserved dates for 2017, they have to be processed through the Motorcycle Union of Ireland which all being well will be in the very near future.

“This will allow us to progress our plans and with a lot of hard work as well as great team work we hope to produce yet another exceptional year in 2017 for what is, undoubtedly, the best national road race in Ireland, the Armoy Road Races – but then I’m biased!”

Many of the other positions within the Club remain unchanged with Trison McMullan as Vice Chairman, Jean McPherson returning as Club Secretary, George Huey as Club Treasurer and David Guild as Assistant Treasurer. Ann Louden returns as Race Secretary and newly elected Christopher Kennedy will act as Assistant Race Secretary.

2016 saw the Armoy Road Races enjoy its strongest year to date with an estimated 20,000 spectators attending over two days with local riders and brothers, William and Michael Dunlop, dominating the big races.

Michael won both Superbike races at the Armoy road race meeting on Saturday while his brother William completed a Supersport 600cc double.

Englishman James Cowton enjoyed a Supertwins victory, ahead of Michael Sweeney and Christian Elkin.

Armoy Road Races is part funded by Tourism Northern Ireland and Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.
