Ballyclare man on Lorenzo’s MotoGP winning team
Following the recent success of Jonathan Rea, Ballyclare has another winner in the world of motorcycling.
Ian Gilpin from the town is one of Jorge Lorenzo’s race mechanics. Lorenzo led from flag to flag to become the 2015 MotoGP World Champion in one of the most dramatic races of the year at the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana at the weekend.
In front of 110,000 race fans at the Ricardo Tormo circuit the rider never put a wheel wrong as he wrapped up his fifth world title.
“I am delighted. It was a brilliant way to end the season. It was the perfect race and he never made a mistake,” Gilpin said.
