Barr battles to fourth

Doagh Rider Martin Barr had a tough British MX1 championship meeting at Hawkestone Park on Sunday where he finished fourth overall.

In qualifying the Tyco Suzuki rider had a massive crash damaging his shoulder and knee. It meant that he missed superpole but in spite of this and the discomfort from the injuries he still managed to finish fourth in race one.

“I was struggling with the injury throughout the race. I made a good start and was second on the opening lap but I dropped to fifth and had to dig deep to take fourth at the flag” explained Martin.

In his second race he had a race-long battle with Shaun Simpson for fourth and in his final outing he again made a good start and, although he crashed, he still fought back to fourth. Martin is now in fifth place in the championship.

“It was not too bad considering the crash but it was frustrating to miss the podium. Hawkestone is one of my favourite tracks and I know I could have pushed harder if I had not injured myself. Still, when you consider that three guys in front of me are regular top-ten Grand Prix finishers, it wasn’t a bad day. Now I will focus on getting fit again for this weekend’s Red Bull Pro Nationals,” said Martin.
