Barr takes first British MX1 win

Martin Barr won last Sunday’s round six of the Maxxis British MX1 Championship at the fast Foxhills circuit near Swindon.

The East Antrim rider qualified the Proppa.com KTM in third place which gave him third pick of the starting gate for each of his three races.

Race one was one to forget for the Ballyclare rider with a catalogue of forced and unforced errors which eventually saw him cross the line in a disappointing 10th place.

It wasn’t the start he wanted but he made amends in race two. After an average start he worked hard to make his way into second place with a lap to go. The race leader seemed to slow which allowed Martin to charge to the front with only a few corners to go to claim his first win in the MX1 class.

In race three he made another poor start which left him with work to do to make up lost ground. Barr was in determined mood and showed his class as he fought his way through the pack. After avoiding a fallen rider he put in some really fast laps to hit the front and go on to win the race and take the overall win.

The delighted winner said: “It’s been a long time coming but it was worth the wait. I am over the moon.”
