Bird fourth at MX Nationals

Lisburns’ Richard Bird secured fourth place at the weekend at Hawkstone Park.

Riding at the MX Nationals Bird was making his debut on the All Moto 450 Yamaha and the 2019 runner up in the MX1 Experts class came home with fourth overall.

“It was a steady weekend but I couldn’t get the thing off the line,” admitted Bird.

“After riding a KTM for the past ten years the Yamaha was different off the gate.

“I’ll have to do some practicing. The track was rough and definitely interesting but the bike was brilliant.

“Like everyone else we have had no racing and it is good to get the first one out of the way and look forward to the rest of the season.”

Ballymoney rider Jordan McCaw rode the Suitor Auto Fix KTM to sixth overall in the MX1 Experts class and was happy with his weekend’s work.

“It was good and if it hadn’t been for a few incidents I could have finished a lot higher by Sunday night.

“I made a rubbish start in race one and finished sixth but in race two I was in second after the start then another rider crashed in to me bringing us both down and I ended up sixth again.

“I was pleased at coming through from outside the top twenty-five to finish seventh in race three.

“Then in the final race I was running third before picking up a rear tyre puncture on the last lap and Richard Bird came for third before the flag,” said Jordan.
