BRITISH SUPERSPORT: Contrasting fortunes for Reid at Snetterton

The 21-year-old Jordanstown rider produced a terrific performance to battle his way through from ninth place on the third row of the grid to clinch a superb rostrum finish on the Team Traction Control Yamaha in Saturday’s Sprint Race.

It was Reid’s second rostrum finish this season after he sealed third place in the second race at the previous round at Oulton Park in May.

However, after making a flying start in Sunday’s Feature race to lead in the opening stages, a mistake saw Reid lose several places and worse was to come when he high-sided from his Yamaha on lap four while holding sixth place.

He suffered a small fracture in his heel but hopes to recover from the injury in time for the next round of the championship at Knockhill in Scotland, which takes place from July 4-5.

“It was a big high-side and I came down pretty hard and I’ve a small fracture in my heel,” said Reid. “I’m staying in London and then I’ll travel to Ipswich on Monday morning for some laser surgery.

“Hopefully I’ll get into the hyperbaric chamber as well and I’ll try and do everything that I can to get fit for the next round at Knockhill. Obviously it’s not the way we wanted to end the weekend but we had pace in the race and when I took the lead I felt really strong. I had a slight moment coming out of the last turn on the first lap and that set us back and I lost a lot of momentum.

“I started chipping away again and was putting in some good lap times. Unfortunately when Jake Dixon came past me his corner speed wasn’t as high as mine and I had to run wide to try and see if I could get past him on the inside for the next corner. I gave it a bit of gas and tried to steer it with the rear but it went pear-shaped from there and I ended up about ten foot in the sky.

“I was super-happy to be on the podium again on Saturday, so it’s just disappointing how the weekend ended. That’s motorbike racing and you have to take the rough with the smooth, but hopefully we’ll be back fighting at Knockhill in two weeks time.”
