Brothers gear up for race

The two boys, pupils at Bushvalley primaries one and four, are making a delayed start to their 2nd year of racing due to Rowan having had his appendix removed at the end of Feburary.

Inspired by their uncle Derek McLaughlin’s success on short circuits the boys had seen the demonstrations at previous NW200s at Landsdown, they wanted to try it for themselves.

Rowan started racing last year in the junior novice class progressed to the junior light class mid way through last season.

This progression also allowed him to ride in the junior production class, riding a more powerful bike.

Clark had to wait until his 5th birthday in August until he could ride out in the novice class, aka The Wobblies, on account of them being a little shakey.

He soon got up to speed.

Both boys already have an impressive collection of trophies from last year and hope to add to them this weekend at East Strand Car Park this weekend.

Most of the racing takes place down south and to have an event so close to home and connected to the NW200 makes it more special.

There will also be other classes of races including: modifyed production mini moto, super mini moto, pit bike and mini gp for older riders.

The Mini Moto Racing Club of Ireland (MMRCI) is holding round three of their championship this weekend Friday 13th and S aturday 14th at East Strand Car park. Practice on Friday evening from 5pm, qualifying and racing on Saturday from 9am.
