Conor is Ulster MX2 champion

After seven wins over the six-round series the 16-year-old left it till the last round before clinching the silverware.

Riding for the Bike It Cosworth Yamaha team, Conor started the season well with two victories and a second place at Desertmartin. However, things do not always go smoothly in the motocross game and a DNF at Desertmartin meant he dropped to second in the series, with a four-point deficit behind his rival Stuart Fee.

A good man is not down long and Conor was back on top of the championship at the very next meeting with a first and two seconds, earning a healthy 15-point advantage and comfortably cruising to his first major title. However, with a round to go, disaster struck the Yamaha and mechanical problems at Tandragee and suddenly Conor was six points adrift again.

“I knew what I had to do in the final round at Tinkerhill and rode the wheels of the Yamaha that day,” he said.

Conor qualified first and victory in the opening race cut the deficit to four. He also won race two after a long battle with Fee, and with only one point in it going into the third and final race it was all down to who beat whom to the line. Conor won the race and lifted his first major championship.

“I was really happy and to lift my first title was something special,” he commented.

He is now chasing the double and with two rounds left he lies second in the Irish Championship. “I will need a bit of luck in this one, but I’ll give it a go,” he said.

For next season, Conor is still unsure what direction his career will go, but he will be traveling to the US after Christmas to train for two months.

“I am really looking forward to the trip to North Carolina and when I come home I will decide where I want to race,” said the teenager.
