The 22-year-old is leading the National Superstock 600 Championship, and he extended his lead after finishing second at the famous circuit.

The 4th Round of the championship was included as a support race for the British round of the World Superbike Series at Donington Park at the weekend.

Phillips started on Pole, and despite an injury sustained in qualifying, rode a magnificent race to come home in second place.

“The Team have been working tirelessly to eke more out of my Kawasaki ZX-6R race bike as the season has progressed,” Phillips said, “and so far I have been able to repay their dedication with some good results.”

Friday Practice went well for Carl and he felt just a few suspension and gearing changes were needed for a good setup.

Carl was lapping consistently during Qualifying and with less than 10 minutes left in the session he returned to the pits.

With new tyres fitted, he returned to the track ready for a last push to improve his lap times but unfortunately he ran wide at the hairpin and his boot slipped off the foot peg and caught him on the back of his leg.

Undeterred and ignoring the pain Carl regained control and in the final minutes of Qualifying he put in a blistering time to secure Pole Position. When Carl returned to the paddock his injury was worse than he thought and his leg was badly bruised and swollen but with ice packs and rest overnight he was declared fit on race day.

A good start to the race and immediately Carl was involved in an intense battle at the front but after another riding masterclass he crossed the line in 2nd place extending his lead in the Championship.

The next round of the Championship is at Knockhill in Scotland on June 26th. Follow Carl and the Teams progress on Twitter @carlphillips32 and on Facebook Carl Phillips Racing.
