Graeme Irwin scores points in Czech Republic

Carrick’s Graeme Irwin had two good rides at the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic last weekend when he took the Heads and all Threads Suzuki to an overall 18th after the two races.

On a hard and slippery Loket circuit, it was Belgian racers Kevin Strijbos on the Suzuki and Yamahs’s Jeremy Van Horebeek who took the wins.

But, despite riding with a fractured wrist and broken kneecap, Irwin powered his Suzuki to 17th in race one after qualifying 13th-fastest and in the second moto finished 16th.

He has now scored 16 world championship points this season and was reasonably happy with the weekend although felt he could have done better.

“I made two bad starts which didn’t help because I felt I had the pace for at least the top 10 and maybe top six,” he said.

“The problem is at this level everyone is on the same pace and if you fluff the start it is real hard work making up lost time. Still, I enjoyed the weekend.”
