Irwin and Barr complete season

Graeme Irwin and Martin Barr completed their respective British championships at Little Silver, Exeter, last Sunday.

Irwin took the MBO Yamaha to third overall at the final round of the series last Sunday. After qualifying second-fastest, he had three steady races finishing third every time.

It gave the Carrick rider fourth overall in the MX2 championship. “The only problem I had all day was the start gate broke in my last race and they had to restart the race. Other than that it was a steady enough day and I suppose I have to be happy enough with fourth in the championship.”

The same could not be said for Doagh’s Martin Barr, who after qualifying second and leading his opening race, had to settle for fourth at the flag when the Tyco Suzuki developed a problem.

In race two he was held up in traffic and lay in tenth in the opening laps before fighting his way into fourth by the half way stage of the race. However, a massive crash over a jump damaged his shoulder and ended his racing for the day. In doing so, it also ended his chances of climbing from fifth in the championship.
