Ladies - and gents - encouraged to join charity bike event for Macmillan

Breast Way Round Norn Iron, is a two day, 250 mile, charity motorcycle across Northern Ireland, which will take place on Saturday and Sunday, August 24 and 25.

The event is hoping to raise awareness of Breast Cancer and raise funds for Macmillan, all while having some fun along the way.

From pink ‘blinged up’ bikes, pink mohawks and tutus, the ladies and gents - who are encouraged to don a bra for the occasion - will be going all out to draw attention.

One local lady is encouraging other Lisburn girls and guys to sign up before the August 1 deadline for registration.

Breast Way Round started in Scotland several years ago, and upon hearing about it, ladies from Northern Ireland decided to hold their own ‘Norn Iron’ version. With plans having been made over the past couple of years, they are now ready to hit the road.

Now all you need to do is get on a bike and raise at least £100 per person. Fifty people are already registered, and with organisers hoping to raise £10,000 and have at least 100 people, there are still plenty of opportunities to sign up.

Lisburn woman Lorraine McCartney is looking forward to getting on her bike.

Lorraine said: “We ideally want 80 women and 20 men. We want to promote female bikers and raise money for breast cancer research.

“We will be starting at Stormont and going through Newcastle, Tandragee, Londonderry/Derry and making our way back to Stormont. Our launch took place in GS Motrocycles, Ballymena, who are generously providing a bike for me, and have donated a helmet towards our raffle. We’re also hoping to make a calendar and they have offered their premises and bikes for that.

“The PSNI have also offered to lead us out of Stormont and back on the Sunday, which is wonderful.”
