Mawhinney gets new season underway

LOCAL motorcycle racer Nico Mawhinney’s new season of racing has now got under way after coming from a great season wherein he claimed the Irish superbike and Superstock championships setting 9 new lap records in the process.

In the first meeting of the season he went to Bishopscourt in County Down with the Superstock bike from last season now in full Superbike trim. The competition was very competitive and he came away with a 5th and a 6th place. Nico now also has a 250 Honda sponsored by Portadown team D&GW racing.

Nico ended up with a 3rd and in the second race a mechanical breakdown cost him the race whilst leading. The next meeting followed at Kirkistown on a day of mixed weather conditions. Nico came away with a Superbike 3rd place and an issue with a rider in the second race watched him drop back to 6th.

On the 250 Honda Nico had a brace of wins in a tightly contested race. Nico’s next race is at Kirkistown on the 13th of July. Nico would like to thank all his sponsors and his supporters club for all their support.

Nico will also be having a fund raising BBQ at Moyola football club this Saturday the 23rd June at 8.30 with music supplied by DJ Mighty Quinn.

All BBQ tickets purchased will go into a draw for a signed print of Isle of Man 600 winner Michael Dunlop. So we look forward to seeing all race fans there for a good night.
