McCormick is runner-up in Ulster Championship

Glenn McCormick finished runner-up in the Ulster MX2 championship at last Saturday’s final round of the Ulster MX Championship at Tinkers Hill Newry, on his Watt Motorcycles/ Agnew Kawasaki.

In qualifying the 16-year-old from Gleno was third fastest, giving him third gate pick for all three races.

Race one saw him get a good start and settle quickly into second place where he stayed to the finish.

In race two McCormick found himself blocked in at the first corner, leaving him with a lot of work to do. A determined effort saw him make up places quickly in the first few laps and he soon moved into third place and followed the front two home to the flag.

In his third race he was also held up at first corner getting stuck in middle of the pack. When making progress through the field he lost the front end in a fast corner, hitting the ground hard. After re-mounting, he charged through too a well-deserved fifth-place finish.

This was enough to give the local lad an excellent second-place finish in the MX2 Ulster championship on his 250f Kawasaki, in his first year in the premier adults ranks.

Although disappointed not to win the championship, this was a great achievement for the schoolboy in the adults class, in his first year on four stroke machinery.
