Motocross ace Trevor on top of the world

Trevor Calderwood has every right to feel on top of the world after reaching the highest level in his sport.

The Ahoghill class motocross rider returned home at the weekend following a successful trip to the USA, where he returned home as a world champion.

The 54-year-old won the overall Trans Am 500 category at the CZ world championships, held in Marysville, California.

“Cz are a vintage motocross bike made in Czechoslovakia and were very popular in the late Sixties and mid-Seventies,” explains Trevor, who has been involved in motocross from the age of 13.

“The organisation in California organised this event CZ world championships

“We had riders from all over the world, including USA, Czech Republic, France and Italy, including some former champions riding. I won the overall prize in the Trans Am 500, making me Cz world 500 champion. I managed to beat former AMA American champion Rex Staten, who raced factory Cz back in the day.

“I have a collection of Cz bikes and race regularly at home in the Northern Ireland Classic Scramble Club

“We have a big event coming up in September in Northern Ireland - the Classic Motocross of Nations - in which we will have riders from all over Europe taking part.”
