Motocross: Barr leads the way in Masters series

Newtownabbey racer Martin Barr leads the Pirelli British Masters MX championship after last weekend’s second round at Hawkestone Park.

The Doagh rider took the BRT KTM to overall victory after two brilliant races. He qualified fastest and in race one took the holeshot to lead by over 14 seconds by the end of two laps which he controlled to the flag.

In race two he was sixth away but led at the end of the opening lap and opened up a 15-second lead.

A mechanical problem and a mistake saw Barr crash but he still gathered it together to finish second.

“The crash was my own fault but still I lead the championship which can’t be bad,” he said.

“It’s great to win again and it gives me confidence going into this weekend’s second round of the British MX championship.”
