MOTOCROSS: McCormick suffers leg injury at Desertmartin

In the MX1A class Stuart Edmonds was in a league of his own, winning all three races. Jason Meara and James Mackrel jointly top the MX2A class after fastest in qualifying Glenn McCormick was forced out of the meeting with injury.

McCormick, the reigning MX2A champion was second in race one and heading for the front in race two when disaster struck on the third lap and he was sidelined with a serious leg injury.

“I hit a real soft bit at turn one in the opening race and the bike nearly stopped, which cost me a lot of time then in race two I had got some clear track and was getting my head down to close the gap on the leader when my foot caught on a corner and badly twisted my right knee,” said the Gleno native.

“I don’t know yet how bad the injury is but it is really disappointing for this to happen after all the work and effort the team and myself have put in.”

Doagh rider Paul Atkinson took overall victory in the MX1B class on his 350 HTM Offroad/Ulster Shredders Husky with two wins and a third.

Kris Rea, younger brother of World Superbike champion Jonathan, took his Rea Distribution Yamaha third overall in the MX2B class. “My pace is there but I need to do something about my race distance training. I fade a bit as the race nears the full distance but it is something I can work on and when I get it sorted I’ll be right up there,” he said.

Burnside’s Jamie Mottram took his KTM to three top-six finishes in his group three MX2B races. “It could be better but we’ll get there,” he said.
