MOTORBIKES: Injured TT rider Jamie Hamilton sets up his own race team

The local rider sustained serious injuries when he came off his bike at high speed in the Senior Race at the Isle of Man TT on June 12.

But Jamie explained: “I have been a bit down lately not being about racing and after chatting with a few friends they suggested that I run someone in the winter GP Pitbike series.

“Why did I not think of that? But instead of running a single rider I thought that as I have a couple of bikes lying in the garage I could run two riders.

“So, I contacted Connor Parkhill and Glenn McCormick and both agreed immediately. There could very well be a third bike on the grid in my colours as there is a possibility of either Glenn Irwin or Andy Reid joining the team for future rounds of the series. For me this is an exciting time and I can’t wait until Saturday to get the whole thing under way.”

These immaculate machines are 140cc Stomp bikes with a top speed of around 50 mph. It might not be the 200 mph missiles we are used to seeing our riders on but on a race track like the one at Aghadowey the action is close and exciting.

“Yeah, I rode in last year’s series and it is the best craic ever,” Jamie recalled. “I never won one but I certainly finished in the top three on a few occasions. It will be interesting to see how the boys perform on Saturday.

“I have to thank my friends at Skilganaban Engineering and Agnew Recovery for their help in getting everything together for this latest adventure”.

Round two of the five round Aghadowey Ice Challenge series takes place this Saturday.
