MOTORBIKES REVIEW: Irwin enjoys World Supersport debut

Carrick's Andrew Irwin made his debut in the World Supersport Championship and the local rider, with support from elder brother Glenn, ran inside the points until the closing stages of the race.

In fact he was holding 14th at one point but when the tyres went off he dropped to 18th by the chequered flag.

“It was an experience of a lifetime,” said Andrew. “It was always something I dreamt of, competing in a world championship race, and now I have done it.

“I used the soft tyre option and didn’t make use of them at the start of the race,” he admitted. “I needed to use them in the beginning and didn’t and then at the end of the race I lost places and dropped out of the points when they went off. I’ll learn from it and hopefully I will get the chance again.

“The British Supersport Championship is our priority but I would love another crack at this level of racing. A big thanks to the team and everyone who made it happen.”
