The ‘Wee Wizard’ had one of the best races in his career coming through from eighth to win the Pirelli 1000 superstock race on the Tyco BMW and claw back a further five points on Josh Elliot in the championship.

“We knew that Thruxton was hard on tyres from previous years so we concentrated on preserving the tyres instead of going for fast laps,” he said.

“I made a decent start and was holding sixth but was in no rush, just happy to sit there and preserve the tyres for later in the race.

“I left it until the last lap at the chicane before hitting the front, I suppose a bit of revenge for Snetterton when he (Josh Elliot) did it to me. The championship is a lot more attractive now with 17 points between us instead of the 47 that it was not so long ago. With four rounds left it is his championship to lose. We will keep plugging away and you never know what might happen.”
