Speaking at the announcement Chairman of the Council’s Economic Development Committee, Alderman Allan Ewart, said: “It gives me great pleasure to bring an event like this to Lisburn. The Dromara Destroyers were a formidable force in motorbike road racing and for the Council to support this exhibition at the LeisurePlex is truly an honour.

“The bikes and racing memorabilia which will form the exhibition will allow the public to relive the golden age of road racing. The Council has a strong relationship with the sport of motorbike road racing, supporting the Ulster Grand Prix every year and we are pleased to lend our support to this event also.”

Chairman of the Council’s Leisure Services Committee, Alderman Paul Porter, said: “Lisburn City is a 2013 European City of Sport and we are pleased to support the group in any way we can with their fundraising efforts. We would extend a welcome to everyone to come along to this one-off exhibition.”

Brian Reid, one of the Dromara Destroyers, explained: “Almost three years ago a like minded group of ardent road racing fans met with the residents of Dromara Village with the idea of creating a lasting tribute to mark the outstanding motorcycle racing successes of the Dromara Destroyers, all sons of the Village. The group have been working very hard fundraising for the tribute and the generosity of the public has been great.
