The experienced rider claimed his first NW 200 victory in last Thursday’s Supertwins race, making him the first Irish rider since Tom Herron to win both a World Championship Grand Prix and a North West race.

The rain wiped out Saturday’s racing schedule but McWilliams has promised to come back to the Triangle circuit. “I still want a dry race and I haven’t had that yet, so I will definitely be back in 2014,” he said.

On his race win, he added: “I didn’t get it all my own way, William Davison pushed hard. It was a pity he crashed and didn’t get to finish and stand on the podium.

“The expectation was high at the North West and it was a case of if I didn’t win, why not?

“I am really happy have won for KMR Kawasaki, Vauxhall and Peter and Connor who helped me at the NW. One thing which was really special was qualifying on pole in the dry ahead of Michael Rutter.”
