Reid powers to victory in Superstock

He took the lead on the second lap from Carrick’s Andrew Irwin and then, charging into the distance, at one point, he opened up an eight-seconds advantage ahead of Joe Collier.

“The bike was working so well, it was awesome especially as this was the first time I had race this circuit on a 600. I can’t believe it,” said the Jordanstown man.

The win moved Reid into second place in the title stakes, just three points down on James Lodge.

Carrick’s Alastair Seeley took second in Monday’s 600 supesport race and now lies third in the series.

“It was a typical Supersport race with no holds barred and we were rubbing fairings and bars, and coming onto that last lap I thought I had it defended well enough. But I started backing in and I didn’t want to run in too deep and lose a position that way.

“Billy showed me a wheel and I tried to hold him off and lay on top of him but he pushed me off with his knee.

“I’d like to thank my Mar-Train Yamaha team as they did an immense job after that crash on Sunday the bike was in bits. We’ve scored more good points and got our championship back on track and now it’s time to look ahead to the North West 200.”

Four in a row for Marquez

A huge crowd of more than 115,000 fans saw Spaniard Marc Marquez on the Repsol Honda take a fourth premier class victory in a row at the Gran Premio bwin de España, with Movi Star Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa on the second Repsol Honda Team complete the podium at Jerez.

Local rider Michael Laverty brought the PBM Aprilia home in 16th place.

“The race was a little bit disappointing for me, I rode hard again but this week I didn’t quite have the speed to go with Barbera and Edwards,” he said. “It was a lonely race once they got away from me but I kept a really consistent pace all the way through with barely any fluctuation on lap time.

“It was the best I could do ... and another 16th place finish in the bag but we will continue to work in the test tomorrow to find some improvements that will allow us to gain those all important points.”
