The 21-year-old Jordanstown prospect had finished a battling sixth in Saturday’s Sprint race at the Lincolnshire venue and was feeling confident of challenging for the rostrum in Sunday’s race when disaster struck at the spectacular Mountain section.

Fortunately, Andy escaped without any broken bones and although it was a disappointing conclusion to the weekend after a run of three podium finishes in the previous four races, Reid is staying positive.

He is already looking ahead to the next round at Oulton Park which takes place on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday 6.

Andy felt confident going into the race on Sunday, but knows that only a few millimetres can make all the difference.

“I felt really strong in Sunday’s race but it was just one of those things with the crash. You can go over the Mountain at Cadwell 100 times and be fine and then you can be off line by a few millimetres and end up on the floor. It was unlucky really but I’d been on the pace,” he explained.

The Newtownabbey rider had his tactics well planned for the race, and believes that if he had not crashed, he would have been challenging for a podium place.

“I didn’t get the best start but I was still in the front group and I knew it was a long race, so I settled into fifth or sixth and sat behind Luke Stapleford because I knew he wouldn’t be hanging around. My plan was to sit with him and see where he would go and my thought process turned out right because after I came off, Stapleford started pulling them in and before long he was into the lead. If I hadn’t crashed, my plan would have worked but that’s how it goes,” he said.

“We’ll regroup and there are positives to take heading into Oulton Park,” the Jordanstown man added.
