Seeley delighted to join forces with new team

Carrick’s Alastair Seeley has joined Gearlink Kawasaki for 2013 and his team-mate is none other than great rival Ben Wilson. The pair went head-to-head more than once in 2011, as they fought for the British Supersport title, which Alastair won by a single point.

The two now team up together as team-mates on the Kawasaki ZX-6R for the Supersport series. Adding to that, the 33-year-old local rider will also race at the North West 200 where he has been extremely successful in the past. He will compete for Gearlink Kawasaki in the Supersport races and for MSS Kawasaki in the Superbike and Superstock classes.

“I’m really pleased to have come to an arrangement and signed a deal with Gearlink Kawasaki,” said Seeley. “I’m back on a Supersport bike, which is where I am happiest and I really hope results will start coming back again. It’s been a tough year in the Superbike class and I’m really eager to get a good result next season. I had a brief test at Mallory recently but it was wet and very cold and I didn’t want to do anything stupid but was happy to get a deal sorted.

“I am eager to get back in the Supersport class and I believe Gearlink Kawasaki will help me achieve where I want to be. I think Ben and I will spur each other on to want to do well and get good results next year.

“I have also linked it in with the North West 200, which is a really important race on my calendar and I’ll be racing with Gearlink and MSS Kawasaki there which will be great.”

Team Manager Michael de Bidaph added: “This is a fantastic signing for us, it will involve a lot of work but I really think now is the right time to have two riders who can potentially win the championship for Gearlink Kawasaki.

“This news has given everyone involved a boost and we are really excited about running Ben and Alastair alongside each other on the Kawasakis. We want to get back to winning races again and believe the two top riders will inspire each other to go well.

“It is great to get Alastair on board and we hope that the results will follow; we are looking forward to competing at the North West 200 again next year and hopefully will bring back some silverware. We have been working on the deal for a few weeks and we were fortunate to have a number of top riders approach us towards the end of the season and believe we now have the best two to put up a good fight in the British Supersport Championship next season. We will be doing some extensive testing before the season starts to get Alastair settled onto the Kawasaki and Ben some track time and we are very excited about next season and getting the first race at Brands Hatch in April.”
