Seeley has to settle for third at Donington

Fresh from his heroics at the North West 200, Carrick’s Alastair Seeley took third place in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000cc race at Donington.

The race, which saw the safety car deployed at half distance after Adam Jenkinson crashed out, was won by Hudson Kennaugh with championship leader Josh Elliott second. Third-placed Seeley took the fastest lap on the Tyco BMW S1000RR.

“I was having a bit of argy-bargy with Elliott at the front and Kennaugh was just sitting behind us before the safety car came out halfway through. I tried to control the race from the front, but didn’t see the last lap flag as I was slip-streaming Elliott,” he said.

“It was a schoolboy error as I also missed my pit board. I led all the way to the Melbourne Loop on the last lap, but as I didn’t know it was the final time, I wasn’t defending my line.

“Both of them came up the inside and I lost my drive up to Goddard’s. I thought I had another couple of laps, so was surprised to see the chequered flag.

“I’ll learn from it and hopefully from Snetterton I can start climbing onto the top of the box and reduce the lead to the top of the table,” added a disappointed Seeley.
