Supermoto championship concludes at Nutts Corner

The final meeting of the season takes place at what for many people is the home of Supermoto in Ireland, Nutts Corner kart track. With thanks to Paul Massey, I have the official points in each class.

In the Solo Prestige division Philip Wylie leads, on 160 points. Alan Morgan sits in second place on 157 while in third place is Mark Spratt who has 142.

Despite having to give best twice to his main championship rival in the last meeting, Justin Reid still tops the Prestige Quad class. He has 136 points to the 119 of Mark Donnelly. In theory all Justin needs to do is finish second to Mark in all three races at Nutts Corner and he wins the championship overall by 3 points. I can’t see that being on the agenda, however. He’s a man and a racer. Emma McQuaid is the best placed female in third place with 112 points.

The Clubmans classes are, as ever, hotly contested. In the Solo category its Michael Huey who leads the series, his 164 points being 44 better than Mark McMullan.

With three wins from three starts in his first ever Supermoto meeting, Loughbrickland rider Jason Meara ties with Richard Griffiths for third on 75. While he can’t win the championship outright, Meara can certainly can be a spoiler for a few others if he turns out this weekend.

The Clubmans Quad championship is also wide open. With Alistair Wilson and David Maxwell separated by just 27 points, and with 75 still up for grabs, its wide open. Richard Carey is in third place on 134. Run here also is the Solo Production class. Paul Gormley leads this one on 225 points. Ryan McCaffrey is second on 186 while Jonathon O’Neill is third with 66.

This weekend there will be three races for each class, plus an extra race each for both quads and solos. This is for the David Jefferies Trophy. Racing is due to get under way about 12noon and should be finished by 4pm. As usual, I will have a round up in next weeks Times.

MINIBIKE WINTER SERIES DATES

I attended a minibike meeting a few weeks ago at Nutts Corner and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that the Minibike guys were having a Winter series at Aghadowey. I can now confirm that the dates are as follows.

The first will be on Saturday 22nd November, and the next two after the start of the New Year, the 17th and the 31st January. As yet full details aren’t available, but I will let you know when I get them.

The Minimoto club scored a massive PR coup at the last meeting they had when they invited short circuit and road racers to ride pit bikes. I know that they enjoyed the craic to a man, and from what I hear there are going to be a couple of extra bikes out over the Winter.

The bikes can be bought for a few hundred pounds and can be run for very little as well. I was very nearly talked out of retirement!

One thing is sure, it got people talking about the sport.
