After becoming disillusioned with racing in Ireland, Thompson decided to hit the roads in Scotland in 2009 and 2010 where he wrapped up four titles before moving his racing skills to the English scene.

Here the East Antrim man reckons he has found a championship that ticks all the boxes, as far as he is concerned.

“I have raced in many championships throughout my career but I reckon I have found the best in this one,” he said.

“The organisers are friendly and helpful and the racing itself is as good, if not better, than anything I have experienced.”

Reflecting on his campaign, the local rider said: “2014 turned out to be a great season for me and my team. My GRP Motorsport CBR1000RR, as usual, was faultless all year and we managed to have no crashes which made our consistency good.

“We were chasing set up on the Honda for much of the year but it all changed at Anglesey, in Wales, in round six of the series when a big help from GRP Motorsport,RDM Transport and Moto Shox suspension transformed the bike and we had three podium finishes.”

From that moment Thompson’s season went from strength to strength and he has already made plans for 2015 when he will bid better his championship position.

“I think it is a great series and I want to improve on my 2014 finish. I really enjoy the series, so why not return? The bike is good and I am feeling confident. It would be nice to put the Honda on top of the championship in 2015,” he smiled.

Like all racers, it would not be feasible to line up on the grid without the help and support of a lot of people.

“My racing is not possible without the support and sponsorship from GRP Motorsport, RDM Transport, Moto Shox suspension, Talon Engineering, Putoline Oil, EDP Photo, Mills Transport and Jonny Buckley,” he added.
