TT debut not on the horizon for Irwin

The British Supersport racer syas he has ambitions to compete in the world championship competition in 2016 and said the TT is “not in the future” for him.

The 24-year-old, who recently announced his intention to race at next year’s North West 200, claimed fourth place in the British series on the Gearlink Kawasaki before making his road racing debut at the Ulster Grand Prix.

But he says a tilt at the Isle of Man race isn’t on the horizon for him.

“The TT is not in the future for me,” he told the News Letter.

“I went over this year during the Classic TT and the place was spectacular, very different. But with how this season ended and my plans for next year, I’m hopeful my career will go along the world route in 2016 and I’m not sure if a world team would understand about me wanting to compete at the TT.

“That’s why I’m doing the North West 200 now when I have the chance, because if my career goes in the world direction then I might not have the opportunity over the next few years.

“I can go to the North West next year and hopefully be competitive straight off because it’s mostly just a few straights and chicanes,” he added.

“But it’s different at the TT; the event is a time trial, which I’ve never done before and the circuit would take time to learn, so right now it’s out of the ballpark.”
