Wilson rips up the form book to win at Showgrounds

Larne lad Samuel Wilson ripped up the form book at Ballymena Raceway last weekend to record his first final win of the season in the Junior Rods.

Wilson made his intentions clear right from the start by demoting early pace-setters Jack Kearney and Jonathan Brown by lap four.

Further back, Supreme Champion Antony Kincaid was making strong progress through from the red grade and soon had the leader in the sights of his Peugeot 106. Kincaid really reduced the gap over the closing laps, but Wilson had built up enough of a cushion to squeeze home, with the podium places filled by Kincaid and Jack Kennedy.

Wilson also accounted for one of the heat races in his nippy Vauxhall Corsa, with the other win falling to Matthew Milliken.

The main event on the programme was the Richard Turtle Memorial Cup for the National Hot Rods and it was European Champion Adam Hylands who became the inaugural winner after an absorbing final.

John Christie was second and the final spot on the podium filled by Ballyclare’s Gary Wilson, who also enjoyed a heat win in his Vauxhall Tigra.

Oval racers from around the UK will descend on Ballymena Raceway this Friday (June 12) for an action-packed programme of international events at the Showgrounds oval.

Over 30 crews from England and Scotland are expected to compete with the Challenge Trophy (BriSCA F2 Stock Cars) and the British Championship (ORCi Stock Rods) up for grabs.
