Wright relishing Junior Cup challenge

The 14 -year-old was a revelation during the 2014 season, winning virtually every race he competed in and he hopes to continue with the same success in 2015.

Apart from his British racing, he will race the Larne-based PBS (Pit Lane Bike Services) 125 Honda for John McAllister in the 125 GP Irish Short Circuit Championship.

“I’m convinced Aaron’s going to be a star of the future,” said John. “Aaron’s parents, Chris and Kerri, are very supportive of his career and I’m looking forward to the season ahead and working with a great family.”

On the Kawasaki front it is a series that comes down to the riders’ ability as the bikes are all identical with sealed engines.

Run over nine rounds at some of the UK’s best circuits, with six races at each, it will be a busy year for the young local rider but one that he is really looking forward to.

“I can’t wait,” he told the Times. “I was invited over to Brands Hatch at the end of last season to try out one of the Kawasaki Ninja 300 twins and see what I thought of the series. I was impressed and into the bargain I came away with two second places in the races which made a few of the regulars sit up and take notice.

“Apart from Brands all the tracks will be new to me but I suppose that is all part of the challenge. With the help of my dad, my new crew chief Matthew Hazlett and Iain Kelly, hopefully we can, as a team, deal with any eventuality. It will be a learning curve but I reckon if I finished inside the top five it will have been a good year.”

The 125 is an interesting challenge but again is one Wright is looking forward to.

“The switch from two to four-stroke machinery will not be a problem as I already train on a two-stroke trials bike. The wee 125 Honda will be a great bike to learn some more racing techniques which I can put to good use on the Kawasaki in England. As far as the championship is concerned, I am looking for a top three,” he said confidently.

Wright’s first race on the PBS 125 Honda is at Mondello Park (March 29), followed by the Easter meetings before starting his Kawasaki Junior Cup campaign at Snetterton (April 26).
