Moyle give students a lesson

UUC 0 v 5 Moyle FC

MOYLE FC pushed for an early goal but missed a few chances and became frustrated with the amount of time the ball was out of play.

Benny McCarry had an early chance in the sixth minute but the keeper pulled of a good save.

The keeper could no nothing however in the 17th minute when Marty McGarry showed the midfielders how to cross the ball into the box and Conleth McCaughan had an easy tap in.

It was all Moyle now and almost scored again through Benny McCarry when he ran onto a great ball from Eddie McCloskey. His lob beat the keeper but just floated wide of the post.

In the 29th minute Eddie scored Moyle’s second when he finished off a smart move involving Conleth McCaughan and Daniel Mooney to shoot low and hard into the net.

It was three in the 35th minute when Benny McCarry was rewarded for his hard work. Sol Fox’s incisive pass cut the defence open and McCarry beat the offside trap to coolly beat the tackles, turn smartly and curl the ball into the top corner.

He could have made it four straight from the kick off but he flicked the ball just wide of the post after a fantastic move involving Sol Fox, Lee Watterson and Conleth McCaughan.

Mark McAreavey tried to get in on the scoring act when he went on a solo up the pitch and beat three players but his chance was ruined when he was brought down just before he got into the box. The resulting free saw the ball headed just over the UUC bar.

The game got a bit scrappy after this and the Moyle defence lost a bit of shape when Stephen McAfee came off. Too much of the ball was lost in scrappy periods of play when Moyle failed to keep up to their high standard of passing and moving.

UUC had their first effort in the 65th minute but Ryan McGarry didn’t have to make a save. They had their second chance in the 70th minute but it was a tame effort.

This seemed to stir Moyle and they were inspired by Martin McGarry who pushed up front. He saw two goal bound shots well blocked by the UUC defence.

A goal would have been just reward for all his hard work. He did the trick as Moyle found their feet again and pushed for goals. Benny McCarry was unlucky not to get a goal after good work down the wing from Daniel Mooney.

Within a minute it was four when Lee Watterson, covering the defence, found Malachy Dallas whose quick pass found Donal McCloy just inside the UUC half.

His run saw him beat three players before coolly blasting the ball to the net. He saw a second chance slide just past the post a minute later when he beat the approaching keeper. Moyle scored their fifth through Conor Kelly who was showing good support to Malachy Dallas and he had a simple tap in after the first shot was saved by the keeper.
