Moyola Under 13s seven up at home to Donemana

IT WAS Donemana who came out of the starting blocks first on this cold but sunny winter morning encounter. Hutchinson had to be alert to pull off a fine save from a Donemana attack in the opening minutes.

However Moyola struck first in the fifth minute. A free kick on the right was taken quickly by Connery and his inch perfect cross to the far post was headed in by the stretching Jamie Holmes.

Midway through the half and the home side eventually got their reward for all the early possession. Hunter received the ball on the right and the speedy winger crossed to Connery. His mishit shot fell to Holmes who twisted past his marker to score number two. Donemana to their credit didn’t drop their heads and Hutchinson pulled off another super save when he pushed a fierce long range shot over the bar.

Ten minutes from the break and Donemana’s big midfielder struck what was possibly goal of the game with a strike from 25yds into the top right hand corner.

Moyola increased the tempo and great movement down the right involving Cowden, Connery and Holmes came to Hunter who made no mistake from 12yds, calmly slotted a low drive into the bottom right hand corner.

The second half started as a much more evenly contested affair with McGuigan and Marshall having an excellent game in the heart of the Moyola defence and Hill playing with more composure on the left game after game.

Jordan Holmes was denied for a second time when his shot at the back post was defected wide for a second time. Donemana grabbed a second following indecision in the Moyola defence.

The young Moyola side dug deep again and Holmes grabbed a hatrick, his second in consecutive games. Holmes extended his tally for the season when put through from a Connery pass only for the keeper to save his first effort but the rebound was tucked away by the big striker.

Moyola’s sixth involved Holmes again when his shot was palmed away only to fall to Connery who unselfishly passed to McCann and the young striker made no mistake nestling the ball in the top corner.

Donemana’s striker had a shot off target after being forced wide by McGuigan. Holmes grabbed his fifth following good build-up play from Kane. Hutchinson, in goal, pulled off at brave save at the feet of the striker but could do nothing when the Donemana midfielder grabbed his second long range shot of the game.

Another fine battling performance from the young Moyola team who were inspired by the appearance of their injured captain Wenlock watching from the stand. The management would like to wish Matthew well during his recovery.
