Much improved performance

The local lads made one of the strongest sides in the Lisburn League work hard for their victory, which was achieved with two second half goals.

The Glens had the edge in the first half of last Saturday’s encounter at Ballymacoss, but two magnificent saves from Stuart Wilson ensured Town made it to half-time scoreless.

The locals had their moments in attack but were unable to seriously test the Glentoran keeper.

It was important that Town made a strong start to the second half but unfortunately they conceded a penalty within three minutes of the restart, which was converted to give the Glens the lead.

The locals remained resilient but struggled to gain a foothold in the contest in the second half as the Glens bossed the midfield.

A second goal was always more likely than an equaliser and, shortly after having a goal disallowed, it duly arrived for the Glens a couple of minutes from the end with Stuart Wilson beaten by a powerful angled drive into the top left corner.

While they will be disappointed to have lost the game, the Juniors can take consolation from the knowledge that they will pick up plenty of points between now and the end of the season if they continue to play with the same commitment.
