MURRAY POCKETS ALL-IRELAND TITLE

BALLYMONEY snooker ace Dylan Murray was crowned all-Ireland champion last week.

The potting hot-shot took part in the prestigious championships in the Ivy Rooms, Carlow where the Northern Ireland Under 19 champion met his Southern counterpart Jason Devaney.

And it was Dylan who boosted his ever-growing reputation by sinking his opponent by four frames to one to take the All-Ireland Under 19 title.

His name now dons the trophy alongside those of previous winners such as Ken Doherty, Mark Allen and Joe Swail.

The 19-year-old Rafters player - who has been playing the sport since he was 12 - said he was "chuffed" with the win.

"I'm chuffed as I really wanted to win it," the modest lad told Times Sport.

"Sometimes you get a good result and that was the case on the day.

"It was a very tactical game."

Dylan is currently a student having undertaken a course in quantity surveying.

Despite the demands on his time he still manages to squeeze in a couple of hours practice every day.

The unassuming teen's devotion to the sport is emphatically paying dividends and he is widely tipped by many in the sport to go right to the top.

Dylan now turns his attention to defending his Northern Ireland title this weekend.

"It is going to be difficult but I'll be giving it my best shot," he said.
