Murray set for move

GLENAVON winger Eamon Murray could be set for a move to Ballymena this summer.

The former Linfield man has predominantly been on the fringes at Mourneview Park this season and after threatening on several occasions to make big waves in the Glenavon first team, he could only muster a few ripples across the surface.

He first broke onto the Glenavon scene in 2007 and with his early promise and flair-filled performances, he was tipped as a possible successor to legendary midfielder, Gerard McMahon.

Indeed, McMahon himself has always been an admirer of the winger, calling him ‘unbelievable’ and claiming that he “has got a big future in the game no matter where it may be” after a stunning performance in Glenavon’s 4-3 victory at Inver Park back in October 2007.

Ballymena will hope that his big future will lie at the Showgrounds and after 90 appearances for Glenavon, a move is certainly on the cards.

“Ballymena have expressed an interest in Eamon Murray and Eamon’s first thoughts are that he’d like to go there,” said Glenavon boss Marty Quinn.

“I haven’t made up my mind yet but I may grant that. His contract’s up in another couple of months anyway. He hasn’t put his name on a shirt in our team yet in my opinion and there’s too much inconsistency there.”

However, Rory Hamill will get another chance to prove himself to the boss this pre-season. The 34 year-old signed a six-month deal at the club in January and has scored just one goal in ten appearances but will return to training with the hope of earning himself another contract.

“The way Rory left it with me was that he desperately wants to stay at Glenavon,” Quinn told the ‘MAIL.’

“He’s said that he’ll be getting himself very fit and he’s asked me to take a look at him and give him a chance in pre-season and I’ll do that. Rory’s away in Greece at the moment with the British Forces team. They’re playing Germany in the semi-final of the competition and apparently Rory’s scored a few goals for them.”

Meanwhile, the boss is still refusing to comment on the future of fans’ favourite Tony Grant who may yet remain at Glenavon.

“No comment on that one. I can’t say anything at the moment because I haven’t been playing fair with Tony. I had told him that he wouldn’t be part of my plans but he expressed a real desire to stay and at the moment I’m not sure,” he said.
