Murray to get run in team

GLENAVON boss Marty Quinn has tipped winger Eamon Murray to take his chance and get a run in the first team after impressing in Saturday's dramatic 2-1 win over Coleraine.

The former Linfield man has only featured intermittently in the side this year, making just nine appearances and ten as a sub so far but the manager has no doubts as to the quality he brings to the side and says his backroom staff are working to improve Murray’s all-round game.

“Eamon added more to his game on Saturday than he did last Tuesday night against Newry,” began Quinn.

“We just need to get him to stay disciplined and be where we want him to be and to backtrack when we want him to. Then there is no reason why he can’t stay in the team.

He certainly has all the flair and skill going forward but there are other areas that we need to work on and we are doing that at the minute. It was a very professional performance from him on Saturday.

“I don’t see why he shouldn’t get a run in the team now. It’s up to himself to maintain the standards that he has set and as long as he does that he will keep playing.”

As Murray stepped into the starting line-up for the past two games, Ryan Harpur, who had been playing on the right-wing moved into the middle, where many believe to be his best position and Quinn says that it is a decision that is so far paying off.

“We took the gamble last Tuesday night against Newry of leaving out our team skipper, Conor Walsh and Willo McDonagh; two central midfielders who have served us very well in recent months,” he said.

“I just thought with the run of results we have had, we needed a change and it certainly paid off for us. If we continue in the same vein of form as the last two matches then there’s no reason to change it again.
