Narrow defeat

Craigavon City u18's 3 Armagh City U18s 4

ARMAGH City started the better in this encounter at Lismore and took the lead after three minutes with a mix up in the city defence.

City bounced straight back and equalised through Daniel Skelton who poked the ball over the line after the Armagh keeper fumbled a cross from Pippy McConville. Armagh though showed why they haven’t dropped a point this season by going up and scoring before the halftime whistle to go in 2-1 up.

In the second half it was City who made all the running and with the wind on their back soon started to look the better team, however, goalkeeper Dylan Ward was adjudged to have fouled in the box and to everyone's amazement the ref gave a penalty and Armagh converted to go 3-1 in front. Ward in the City goal was the reason why the scoreline was so close as he made save after save in the first half in what was probably his best ever match in City colour.

Captain Fantastic Andrew Nugent rallied the troops and when City received a free kick at the end of the box there was only going to be one outcome as Nugent thundered it past a hapless keeper to get City back to 3-2 with 20 minutes remaining.

Armagh were dangerous as they played counter attacking football as City chased for the equaliser and it came with 10 minutes left on the clock with Andrew Nugent scoring again after great work from Nathan Harvey.

City amazingly had 11 men in the Armagh Box chasing it with no on at all in the City half. So City had pulled it back to 3-3 which would have suited their rivals to see Armagh drop points, but again Armagh showed why they are top of the league by scoring a winner in the last minute of the game.

This week City are in Armagh to play PFTF so players are asked to meet at the Brownlow Recreation Centre 8.45am - especially the three players who slept in!
