Narrow defeat for Under-19's

IN steady rain and light wind Coleraine Under-19's played host to Ballyclare in the last of the friendly pre-league matches.

The wet conditions resulted in a steady stream of dropped and missed passes from both teams but both sides worked hard and the match was a pleasure to watch.

The Coleraine boys started well spending most of the first quarter in the Ballyclare half. The homeside front row dominated in the scrum driving the opposition back in almost every set play.

Ballyclare’s attempts to break the Coleraine line met with little success but the homeside found themselves hampered by the lack of a strong kicker to remove the pressure when their own line was threatened.

Coleraine had a number of minor breaks and an excellent interception and break by James Wilkinson, which was unfortunately snuffed out on the opposition 22 when he ran out of pace.

The half time score of 0-0 failed to inject extra energy into the side and the deadlock was broken after 10 minutes by an excellent converted penalty putting Ballyclare into the lead.

The remainder of the second half saw Ballyclare cross the line twice, with one conversion, to defeat Coleraine 15-0.
