Narrow defeat season's second for Town U12s

Banbridge Town U12s 1

Lisburn Youth 2

THE U12s lost for only the second time in the league this season when they went down narrowly to Lisburn Youth in hard-fought encounter at Dunmurry.

Banbridge lived on scraps for most of the game as Lisburn dominated possession and it was to their credit that they almost salvaged a point.

Banbridge were under the cosh from the start as Lisburn sought to take a stranglehold on the game. Town keeper Stuart Wilson was on top form throughout, handling and kicking well.

On one occasion defender Ross Fitzpatrick flung himself in front of goal to block a goalbound effort.

Banbridge gained in confidence as the first half wore on but rarely threatened, their only notable moment being a dazzling run down the left by striker Aaron Thompson. It was no surprise that Lisburn went ahead just before the interval when a lobbed cross into the box was finished smartly low to the keeper’s right.

Banbridge almost equalised minutes after the interval when Aaron Thompson volleyed a Callum Adamson corner straight at the keeper from ten yards.

Lisburn doubled their lead midway through the half when a long range shot found its way high into the net. This would have stumped lesser teams but Banbridge stuck to their task and began to exert some pressure of their own.

Aaron Thompson raced clear with five minutes left to convert with pinpoint accuracy and set up an exciting finale.
