Narrow loss for Rainey in Belfast

On Saturday the Rainey 1st XI travelled down to BRA’s sports grounds to play Owls Hockey Club. The Rainey girls went out with great determination and high hopes for the match.

The Rainey team was unfortunately missing a few players but those who stepped up played to the best of their ability. Owls in the first five minutes were awarded a short corner, which they successfully converted to a goal.

Rainey fought hard the next five minutes and then the Owls intercepted a hit out from which they scored again. The Rainey girls where now down 2-0 with twelve minutes gone.

For the rest of the first half the girls fought hard to get a goal with shots from Rachel Clarke and Zara Bell. The Rainey girls started the second half on fire. They continually put pressure on the Owls defence but could not find a way through.

Rainey then got a break through Megan Mullholland who struck a deflected ball into the net, Rainey thought this was the turning point but unfortunately the goal was disallowed. Rainey just couldn’t find a way through the Owls defence so the Rainey girls had to accept a 2-0 defeat. Rainey went home defeated but not discouraged.

Player of the match Lisa Walls.
