National contenders known after busy week

The contenders for National titles are now known after a packed week at Lisnagarvey High School, which saw a few shocks along the way.

Dennison/Graham in pairs

Philip Dennison and Noel Graham, Loughaghery will meet Gordon and Raymond Stubbs, Ballinderry in the final decider for a place at the IIBA National Championships.

They beat Tony McCrory/Jim Chapman, St Paul’s in the section final after edging out Scott Jess/Michael Beattie, Hillsborough Social, at a tie end.

McCrory/Chapman had won against Albert and Keith Morrison in the semi-final.

In the other section, the Stubbs beat C. Magowan/ Brian Kerr in the decider after winning against J. Ashton and G. Sey, St Colman’s Dunmurry in the previous round.

Magowan/Kerr beat Dessie Brownlie/Raymond Gourley in the previous round.

Junior Singles And Pairs

Kirkwood - Carser clash in decider

Steven Kirkwood, Lambeg Parish and David Carser, Seymour Hill will clash in the decider for the junior singles.

Kirkwood beat Kirsty Haughey, Aghagallon after winning against Colwyn Elwood, Loughaghery in the earlier rounds.

Carser had wins over Craig Connery and Davy Kinghan.

John Connolly had lost to Haughey Connery beat Terry Russell.

The same players joined up in the pairs with Haughey/Kirkwood and Elwood/ Carser winning through.

Ladies Singles

Marie Corey, Aghagallon who beat Kathleen McCullough, St Mark’s in the decider will play Theresa Cushnahan, Rock, winner against Joan Montgomery, Hilden in the final.

Earlier, McCullough beat Thelma Irwin, Sloan Street, Corey beat Muriel McCandless, Eglantine, Montgomery won against Amanda Carser, Hillsborough Social and Cushnahan beatCiara Haughey, Aghagallon.
