Nelson hits hat-trick in Thirds win

BALLYMENA United Thirds claimed their first victory of the season on Saturday with a 6-1 drubbing of Newry City Wanderers.

Ballymena started the brighter side and took the lead after 10 mins when Ross Nelson got on the end of a Corey Price cross.

Johnnie McKee, son former United favourote John McKee, made it 2-0 when he followed up after the keeper could only parry a Neil Lowry shot.

It was 3-0 when Lowry bhroke clear to round the keeper and Ross Nelson scored a fourth with an unstoppable shot from 25 yards.

Newry pulled a goal back from the penalty spot but not before Chris Bradley had made a excellent save but couldn't get to the rebound. Ross Nelson scored Ballymena's fifth and completed his hat-trick just before half time.

The second half saw only one goal which was scored by Peter Duffin midway throught the half.
