Nervous start

Killylea 70 Lurgan 38

ON Thursday evening the Lurgan Mid-Ulster team travelled to Killylea for their opening game of the league.

The green did not suit the Lurgan team coming from a drawing green to a straight heavy green with bowls having to be delivered straight up and down the green.

This is one green that the home team always has the advantage.

Rink one comprising Richard McClune, Charles Maguire, Tom Connolly and David Millar (skip) held a close game until the thirteenth end of the 18 end match but gave away 13 shots to one in the last five ends losing 26-12.

Rink two of Michael Steen, Bobby Livingstone, Eric Dawson and Derek Henderson (skip) was the closest of games with the lead changing hands up until the sixteenth end but the Lurgan rink lost three shots on the last two ends going down to lose 16-14.

Albert Houston, Declan McCabrey, Melvyn Hamilton and Wilfie McCullough (skip) did not get going until the tenth end by which stage they were 21–4 down but the rink never give up and at the end lost 28 –12.
