Nesbitt takes UK Masters honours

MARK Nesbitt, Ballyvally's most successful archer in recent years, has just won the UK Masters in Birmingham.

Beating the best in Britain was no easy job especially since Mark is still a junior and certainly keeps him in the sights of the GB selectors for the Olympic Games in 2012.

Mark survived a number of head to heads before meeting Jonathan Shales in the final nailbiting elimination match and he came away with the trophy.

FURTHER SUCCESS IN WALES - A Ballyvally squad of 10 archers went to Wales in late May to shoot in the British open field archery tournament.

The two day FITA event was shot on a Welsh mountainside in the Rhondda Valley just outside Cardiff.

Robert Mallon, although still a junior like Mark Nesbitt, won the mens barebow. Joanne Walker was third and Marion Patterson was fourth in the ladies barebow.

Robert, Joanne and Marion all had great scores and as a result all have places on the Great Britain team to shoot in the World Championships in Hungary this July.

Valerie Sleith won the ladies veteran barebow champs and Patricia Mulligan the ladies compound barebow class.

Shannon Russell-Cowan, although also still a junior, came second in the ladies traditional class and in the junior barebow boys class Frank Lennon lifted the gold.

Next year, 2011, the honour of hosting the British Open returns to Ballyvally for the third time!

BALLYVALLY IN NORWAY - Following their trips to shoot in Wicklow, Kendal and Wales, Ballyvally members will soon be on their way to shoot in Norway.

Approximately 20 members will make the five day trip which will include some sight seeing in Oslo.
